Product design for ATEX standards

Crucible has just completed a new design for a product that needs to meet ATEX safety standards for SKC Ltd. The AirChek 3000 air sampling pump is designed for use in hazardous environments and monitors levels of airborne particles.

When SKC originally contacted us, they had a problem getting their air sampling pump to pass fairly extreme drop tests. These included cooling the device to minus 50 degrees C and dropping it a metre onto concrete – after which it still had to work! Our solution to this and other technical and manufacturing challenges has just been released, using a complex set of two-shot mouldings to create seals and the vital impact resistance for the internal parts.
