Can we celebrate 70 years of the NHS with some new wheelchairs?

As someone who has spent a lot of time in NHS facilities during the last year, I have been incredibly impressed with the equipment, buildings and above all the staff at my local hospital.

However, the modern design of most hospitals is in sharp contrast to the wheelchairs used to move patients around. Wheelchairs for hospital use clearly need to be robust, but they don’t need to look like something from the 19th Century.

A positive environment and well-designed equipment can help make hospital visits a less stressful experience, and this should include those many thousands of patients with mobility issues.

The development of robust, lightweight, manoeuvrable and attractive hospital wheelchairs would be a great project. Having been given fantastic treatment by the NHS over the past year, I would be happy to contribute my time free of charge.

Any takers?
