We love the varied nature of what we’re asked to do, but the design of a set of illuminated benches inspired by wrought iron railings for the courtyard of the old corn exchange in Liverpool was one of our more interesting enquiries.
The project involved the development of three seating units that would be used by customers at the restaurants around the courtyard. The client wanted them to reference the beautiful railings that surround the courtyard, and it was agreed to pick up the strong spiral motif that was repeated in the wrought iron work. The seating units also had to include downlighting to illuminate the flagstone floors at night. Oh, and they needed to be designed, built and installed in four months.
We developed three seating units in red glass reinforced plastic with LED underlighting. Once the concept was approved, we then detailed the parts in our CAD system, arranged manufacture and even installed the seating ourselves. The client was, to say the least, happy:
“Crucible were great to work with on this project. They were totally reliable and accommodating. They gave us complete confidence in their ability to deliver on time and on budget through regular updates and visuals, and were always readily available to answer any questions and allay any concerns. They provided a superb service and delivered a first class result”.
